A beautiful and thoughtfully crafted Salt Vessel, designed to bring beauty and intention to one of the most enduring rituals of the Jewish table.

Dinah Ninio is a Melbourne-based painter and ceramicist whose minimalist, multifunctional ceramic pieces are inspired by the Jewish lifecycle. Through a contemporary approach to form and function, her work seeks to preserve, honour and beautify Jewish traditions, creating objects that feel both meaningful and relevant to modern life.

Handmade with care, this ceramic Salt Vessel transforms a simple yet significant table object into a contemporary work of art. Traditionally used for salt at Shabbat and festival meals, it reflects the importance of ritual, gathering and connection. Balancing clean lines with tactile craftsmanship, each piece is designed to sit comfortably in the home, enhancing both everyday moments and special occasions. Functional, elegant and timeless, it brings a sense of mindfulness and beauty to a practice that has been observed across generations.

At the Jewish Museum of Australia, we are proud to bring to light the work of Jewish artists and makers whose practices reflect the richness and diversity of contemporary Jewish life in Melbourne. Dinah's work embodies this vision, drawing on enduring traditions while expressing the creativity and evolving identity of the Jewish community today.
